FOR YOUR TERMINAL / 3 MIN READ

Your Public IP. One Command.

No banner, no markup, no extra fields. A command-line request returns the source IP seen by this service, followed by one newline.

No API KeyIPv4 + IPv660 Requests / Minute / IP

curl

Just the domain. No parameters needed.

Terminal
curl aboutvoip.info

That bare command uses HTTP. For an encrypted connection, use HTTPS:

Terminal
curl -fsS https://aboutvoip.info

The result is your connection’s address, not the address of aboutvoip.info. Your browser, phone and SIP trunk can use different internet exits.

Explicit Plain Text

Use /ip to request plain text regardless of user agent or browser headers.

Terminal
curl -fsS https://aboutvoip.info/ip

Wget

Wget
wget -qO- https://aboutvoip.info/ip

PowerShell

Invoke-RestMethod works without relying on a shell’s curl alias. To use real curl on Windows, call curl.exe.

PowerShell
Invoke-RestMethod https://aboutvoip.info/ip

Choose an Address Family

These require working IPv4 or IPv6 connectivity from your device. A failure is not evidence of the other family’s address.

IPv4
curl -4 -fsS https://aboutvoip.info/ip
IPv6
curl -6 -fsS https://aboutvoip.info/ip

JSON

The JSON endpoint returns the source address and IP version. It does not return location, phone registration, network quality or call statistics.

Terminal
curl -fsS https://aboutvoip.info/api/ip
Example response — documentation address, not your reading
{"ip":"203.0.113.24","version":4}
PowerShell
Invoke-RestMethod https://aboutvoip.info/api/ip | ConvertTo-Json

Shared Fair-use Limit

The current server limit is 60 requests per source IP per site in any rolling 60 seconds. Pages, assets reaching the server, CLI/API calls, HEAD requests and error routes share the allowance; it is not a separate allowance for each endpoint. People behind the same public NAT address share it.

HTTP 429 means the allowance was exhausted. Respect Retry-After, then retry slowly. The X-RateLimit-Limit and X-RateLimit-Remaining headers expose the active budget. Do not rotate addresses to evade it.

Response Headers
curl -sS -D - https://aboutvoip.info/ip

Local Tools Are Not Remote Probe APIs

The bandwidth calculator and metric reviewer run in the browser. There is no bandwidth-test, SIP-registration, ping, port-scan or call-quality measurement endpoint. Changing calculator inputs makes no request to the server. If you explicitly use a supported browser agent, it can operate the local calculator through the site’s structured tool.

Safe Automation

Use a reasonable timeout and infrequent polling. Never place passwords or sensitive values in query strings. An address returned by this web service should not be used by itself to authorize access or determine a phone’s emergency location.
